I previously wrote an article titled “Capitalism Over, Victory is Determined (COVID)” (May 10, 2020). My argument was that Americans were one straw away from mass civil unrest demanding revolution for many reasons, but primarily due to three significant factors:
- The ongoing pandemic, the failure to mitigate the spread, and the rising death count as a result. The total deaths in the U.S. had been roughly 80,000. Now? The country has reopened businesses and global new cases have spiked to over 100,000 per day along with a subsequent rise in deaths. The total dead in the United States now exceeds 110,000. We’re still averaging over 1,000 dead every day.
- The resulting economic collapse and the failure of Congress and the White House to provide an appropriate response. At the time of my post, the job losses had been 26 million, already more than the Great Recession. Now? Roughly 40 million. Still no healthcare for all. Still no universal basic income (UBI). Still no rent relief.
- The pending re-election of Donald Trump due to corporate Democrats rigging the primary for a warmongering, demented rapist funded by billionaires. Now? Joe Biden has indeed secured the nomination, guaranteeing Trump a 2nd term.
None of the above was difficult to predict. COVID-19 had already permeated the globe, the economic impact wasn’t difficult to extrapolate, and the corruption of the DNC ensured that a non-corporate alternative such as Bernie Sanders or Tulsi Gabbard never had a chance. High unemployment plus increasing poverty meant there would be millions of desperate Americans with plenty of time on their hands with increasingly less to lose. The tinder for revolution was prepped. All it needed was a spark. I thought that if the pandemic didn’t completely overwhelm hospitals and if the economic collapse was just gradual enough then revolution might be delayed until the re-election of Donald Trump. That would be the final straw.
What I couldn’t predict was that the cold-blooded and senseless murder of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis Police would occur, providing the last infinity stone of outrage.
Despite my long-standing view that our militarized police functions more like an occupying army of domestic terrorists, I did not think that police departments nationwide would be so arrogant, so stupid, and so shameless to respond against peaceful protestors with flashbang grenades, physical assault, rubber bullets, and chemical warfare. At least, not so blatantly and knowingly on record with the entire world watching.
But they did. Against all races and genders of people and their own best interests, they did. Because cops are not just sociopaths, but also stupid. And because of their actions now everyone understands that cops undeniably are not public servants. They are private oppressors. Their only real function is protecting the status quo, the corrupt, corporate Establishment, by instilling fear in American citizens who dare to challenge it. The black community and progressives, while not comparing their experiences, have known this all too well for decades.

In April 2015, I reached the deepest state of depression in my life. Or more accurately, my most ill-equipped moment to cope with it. I went to the rooftop of my apartment complex, chugged bourbon for courage, and prepared to end my life. A helicopter saw me on the ledge and began to circle around the building and I heard sirens in the distance. Eventually two LAPD officers appeared ten feet away from me while I stood barefoot at the edge, six stories up, my mind racing. Did they try to talk me down like you might expect? No.
Eventually I went back into my apartment on my own accord, no thanks to the LAPD, and found a dozen or so cops on the 1st level of my place while I was up on the 2nd level loft. Keep in mind I was wearing only swim trunks and clearly not armed. All of those pricks still pointed their guns at me and demanded I walk slowly down the stairs to where they were, backwards, with my hands on my head. I had failed to kill myself but they sure seemed intent on finishing the job.
I started to comply then changed my mind. I walked down, facing them, with my hands to my side, and shouted, “You’re not going to shoot! You know how I know? Because I’m not black, you racist fucks!” I walked right up to them until one of the guns was pressed directly against my chest and I looked the officer in the eye. He was shaking and very easily could have pulled the trigger. Instead I was slammed to the ground and handcuffed.
This wasn’t my first encounter with the gestapo. I’ve had a gun pointed at my head at least four times in my life. And I’m white, which goes to show you just how severely out of control policing has become in our country. I won’t get into all of my experiences, but I knew something was terribly wrong with American law enforcement. It wasn’t a few bad apples, but an entire rotten orchard. They prefer their victims to be black, but cops possess a general desire to brutalize the very citizens they swore an oath to serve and protect. But it has always been much harder to convince white folks of this since these police abuses weren’t nearly as widely experienced by the white community.
Now? It’s much, much easier. Twitter is flooded with seemingly endless videos of abuses against all genders, all ages, and all racial backgrounds, combatting the corporate media narrative. The American Gestapo have revealed their true selves and we have the overwhelming, indisputable evidence to prove it.
The solutions to our systemic problems are not mere reforms. It’s way too late for that kind of toothless, window-dressing response. Police have committed textbook acts of terrorism against us on a mass scale, so the only answer is to abolish their departments entirely. They should then be replaced with citizen-elected peace officers who live in the communities in which they serve; no guns and held accountable by a non-partisan committee.
Any proposals that fall short of this goal should be dismissed. Protests must continue and escalate as needed. And we shouldn’t stop there!
This mass solidarity of Americans should be weaponized to address a broader range of injustices to take full advantage of this moment in history. Demands should include:
- Medicare for All
- Tuition-free College
- Eliminate Student Loan Debt
- Effective Climate Change Legislation
- Repeal Citizens United
- Public-only Funding of Elections
- $20 Minimum Wage
- Decriminalization of ALL Drugs
- Ban on Private Prisons
- Release ALL Non-Violent Offenders
- Rent Relief during Pandemic
- Tax Rate of 70% on All Income Over $10 Million
- Affordable Housing
- Universal Basic Income
- And more…
If achieving all of these measures seems unrealistic to you, allow me break down the numbers to paint a clearer picture:
Out of 330 million Americans, less than 1% of the population is in law enforcement at the local, state, and federal level combined. Only 0.2% are cops. 0.4% are in the military. The rest are FBI, CIA, etc. And odds are good that the majority of our military would not attack their own people as only 5% enlisted out of love of country. The vast majority joined for the health insurance and college tuition benefits.
Americans age 18-45 (prime fighters) are nearly 40% of the U.S. population. The math is clear. If we unite, if we fight, we win.
Our enemy is likely to surrender because of the sheer numbers against them. But if not, if they are foolish enough to continue denying us, they will be dealt with swiftly. Not just the police, but the politicians at every level of Government. Americans appear to be increasingly uniting at an unprecedented rate with the backing of the international community, but the willingness to fight back against the enemy remains an obstacle we must overcome. If we are consistently playing defense we will not be able to advance our cause. You have every right to defend yourself.
I’ve been preaching about the need for revolution for nearly a decade now and goddamn has the moment arrived arrived! Fight for yourselves, your children, your family, your friends. Channel all your outrage, your thirst for justice, and do whatever you need to do to mentally prepare yourself for the battles to come.
This is a war. Every American should join the right side of history and help to transform the nation into a place of truth, justice, and true equality and achieve it by any and all means necessary.
Our very survival depends on it. #REVOLT
“Stand ye calm and resolute,
Like a forest close and mute,
With folded arms and looks which are
Weapons of unvanquished war.
And if then the tyrants dare,
Let them ride among you there;
Slash, and stab, and maim and hew;
What they like, that let them do.
With folded arms and steady eyes,
And little fear, and less surprise,
Look upon them as they slay,
Till their rage has died away:
Then they will return with shame,
To the place from which they came,
And the blood thus shed will speak
In hot blushes on their cheek:
Rise, like lions after slumber
In unvanquishable number!
Shake your chains to earth like dew
Which in sleep had fallen on you:
Ye are many – they are few!”
– Percy Bysshe Shelley (1819)
